Science Stuff

Title: Science Stuff
Series: The Best Moves
Disclaimer: Wholly original work.
Characters/Pairings: Tyler, Julian
Rating: AA
Summary: Tyler and Julian talk books and science, kinda.
Notes: prompt: Evil Scientists

There. Oil changed, air in the tires that held air, patch in the tire that previously didn't, and two hamburgers in his stomach. Tyler was proud - it was still before noon.

Adult stuff taken care of - time for video games and action figures. And probably vacuuming, but that didn't take too long and maybe Matthew would do it for him if he asked really nicely.

Tyler wasn't surprised that the front door was unlocked - aside from the middle of the night, it was pretty much always unlocked. But then again, most of the time, someone was home somewhere in the house, doing something.

Even, apparently, if they didn't actually live there.

Only a little surprised to see Julian sprawled on the sofa, reading, Tyler kicked off his sneakers without untying them and wandered over to see if Julian had acquired something interesting.

"What are you reading?" Tyler questioned, leaning low to peek at the book that seemed to have utterly absorbed Julian's attention.

"Mmm?" Julian took a moment before looking up, something he did only after carefully hooking a thin beaded bookmark through the pages to keep his place.

He offered the book to Tyler and shifted his feet down off the sofa so that there was room for another person. Tyler wanted to tell him not to bother -- there was plenty of floor and hey, Julian had seemed pretty comforable as he was. But he was too distracted with the book.

"'Earth Science for Dummies'?" he questioned, frowning. "Didn't think you were -- or weren't, I guess - the science-y stuff sort..."

Julian smiled and brushed his hair back. "I guess... I don't know. Someone had left it out, and I read the back before re-shelving it. There's just so much stuff that I don't know. I didn't finish high school, after all, so..." Tyler found himself staring right into a rather surprising blush. Normally Julian was just utterly quiet - that might have been the most he'd ever heard Julian say, actually.

Tyler sat down on the floor and leaned back against the sofa before flipping the book over. "Neat stuff... I probably knew some of this but just forgot... I kinda liked science in school, but more in the mad scientist way, I guess."

He handed the book back to Julian.

"Y'know," he continued, "blowing things up and making super-weapons or something."

"I can see you as an evil scientist," Julian said softly. Tyler assumed he was smiling. "With evil robots?"

"Now you're talking!" Tyler stretched and relaxed. "Evil robots, and a lair with bubbling, ah... science stuff." He frowned.

"Would you like to borrow the book when I'm done?" Julian questioned. "Won't help with the bubbling stuff, but I do think we have 'Chemistry for Dummies', too. But you'll know not to build your lair in an active volcano?"

"But an active volcano would be cool... hot..." Tyler sighed. "Okay. I'll read the book."

He paused. "And get me the chemistry one with your discount? I'll pay you back."
