The Red Ones

Lunamaria kept coming back to it whenever she could - it was massive, though not overly bulky without reason. She'd seen it in battle and had been nearly unable to keep her focus on the machines she'd been fighting.

There were other pilots and mechanics around, completing repairs, running diagnostics... Luna had done that, too. But her machine was set and well, she had managed to position it so that she had to walk by the hulking red machine each time. And each time she paused just long enough to look up and admire it... and wonder...

'Lunamaria Hawke, Sazabi, launching...'

She smiled at the thought and imagined what it would be like to have that much power under her control.

When a hand came to rest on her shoulder, however, she nearly jumped out of her uniform.

"You're that Zaku pilot, aren't you?" Lunamaria knew the voice - it was Sazabi's pilot, Char Aznable - also one of the combined group's leaders.

"Yes, sir," she managed, turning enough to meet his gaze.

"Good work today," he continued.

Luna nodded, nervous about the compliment from a true ace.

"Th-thank you."

His next comment was the one that caught her off guard.

"A Zaku is a good place to start," he said, before offering her a cryptic little smile. "Especially a red one."

Luna could only nod and look back towards her own machine, instead of up at Sazabi. She had plenty of room for improvement, after all - especially before tackling something so wholly overwhelming.
