Hot Night

After closing up the restaurant, Kazuki was excited by the prospect of getting out into the night air. Except... it wasn't any cooler outside than it had been in the kitchen. Possibly, it was even hotter, which explained all the sandwiches and other raw food he'd been making all afternoon and evening.

Halfway home, drenched with sweat, he flopped down on the sidewalk in hopes it might be cooler. But it wasn't - it was holding in the heat of the day and for a brief second, Kazuki was fairly sure he was frying himself.

He could hear the hum of air conditioners from a couple of houses, but he couldn't take any comfort in that - Soushi had insisted it'd be wasteful and they could always just go to Alvis, which was underground and climate-controlled within very specific parameters.

Soushi might not even be home, Kazuki realized. Though... Kazuki thought it better he stop home, at least, to change and grab a few things. He'd been told all afternoon how incredibly hot it was, but he'd thought it just exaggeration on behalf of his customers.

Not this time - this time it was just really hot...

Surprisingly, the windows were all open and Kazuki could hear fans blowing. That meant Soushi hadn't abandoned the house for cooler places.

"Soushi?" Kazuki called as he entered and took his shoes off. He wondered if he should have brought home dinner, though it was far too late - and too hot - to eat.

"Bedroom," Soushi replied.

Kazuki wasn't expecting Soushi to be naked, his hair in a knot on his head and what had probably been a cold wet handtowel on his back as he sprawled on the bed with a tablet in one hand.

"I thought you might've gone to Alvis," Kazuki managed.

"Had to activate a system to use the naturally cool air to help cool other parts of the facility that were getting too hot," Soushi explained as he half-heartedly held up the tablet. "I'm monitoring temperatures on a half-hourly basis."

"Aren't you tired?" Kazuki questioned as he started peeling off his work clothes.

"It's too hot to sleep."

"When's the last time you checked temperatures?" Kazuki asked as his pants hit the floor. "I'm going to take a nice cold shower..."

Soushi looked from Kazuki to his tablet and back again.

"I'll be right there."
