Daylily Title: Daylily Fandom: Dot//Hack Legend of the Twilight Disclaimer: No ownership implied, no profit gained. This is a fanwork. Characters/Pairings: Balmung/Reki Rating: AA Summary: Balmung makes it up as he goes along. Reki needs to watch his phrasing. Notes: 15_minute_ficlets #231
"A daylily quest?" Reki questioned as he started hunting around for resources and images. "Now I know you had nothing planned before the meeting. What would you have done if I hadn't mentioned the daylilies blooming outside my apartment when we left this morning?" Balmung shrugged his usual shrug and gave Reki a calm enough look that suggested he would have drawn on any number of other things they'd discussed on the ride in to work. Reki sighed. The problem with Balmung was that his ideas were still off-the-cuff and ridiculous but somehow they'd become a good sort of off-the-cuff and ridiculous and fit perfectly within The World and players... liked them. The presentation Balmung had given - short, and in person and not via his avatar - was well thought out and hit upon every point necessary. He'd even taken questions. But the daylilies... They'd just started to bloom and this was the first time Reki had mentioned them... Well, also the first time they'd gone into work together in quite awhile, actually, because their schedules had been so different and their weekends non-existent. Balmung might have seen them the night before, when he arrived, but that still didn't give him time to-- Unless... Thankful his avatar couldn't blush unless he specifically commanded it, Reki kept hunting up photo references of colors and varieties. Between the flowers, the colors, the nature of the day-long quests, and the special rewards, Balmung had come up with an event that would interest a good percentage of the user base. It could last for weeks, with new 'blooms' opening new quests that would expire at dusk on that particular server. "We should add a picture of your daylilies," Balmung finally said once Reki had a good cache saved. "They'll be in the shade by the time I get home," Reki replied. Reki did not trust the way Balmung's avatar was grinning. He knew that in an office down the hall, the real Balmung was making that same expression. Balmung had his avatar toss a casual arm around Reki's shoulders, pulling him close. Reki could almost imagine the weight. He knew what was coming and he certainly didn't mind. "I'll take a few in the morning. My phone has a better camera. And those don't turn out, I'll try again the day after." "You're making me sound like a sub-quest," Reki deadpanned. There was that grin again. He really, really had to stop giving Balmung ideas.
